Leaving On A Jet Plane, Don't Think I'll EVER Be Back Again
A few days ago I left work early. I rationalized my leaving by telling myself I only took a 15 minute lunch break and worked for the rest of my lunch hour. So there.
As it happened, a train stopped my elatedness at leaving at least a little bit early. I always get happy when I can get away from massive traffic. See my first post here if you need more background information on that.
I stopped a few cars behind the slow-moving train. Thankfully this train was small. It's used to transport "stuff" (the scientific term) for a mining company (I think). What I'm trying to say is that it wasn't like the trains you normally see crossing the road. This one seemed to only be used in this small area.
The train lurped forward. Then stopped. With two train cars still on the road, still holding up traffic. I figured this was just some sort of divine retribution because I left work early. Or a form of divine humor. Because then the train started to go backwards! After a few minutes in stasis, the train reversed. What had been moving to the left now began moving to the right. This wouldn't have been too funny had it not been for the song I was listening to at the time.
"Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again
sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time"
The irony was less than understated and more than saturated.
