washing your hands 8.1.2001 Washing your hands, over and over and over and...

I had a professor last semester that got me quite paranoid about many things in our environment.

Now a quote from an MSNBC article on the perils of antibacterial soap, the quote that got me to writing now:

"Ironically, the very people who believe that frequent hand-washing with antibacterials will ward off disease are most likely to get caught up in the vicious cycle, the experts said.

'When I ask patients [with eczema] how often they wash their hands, they say 20 to 25 times a day,” Baugh said. “They think they are being good citizens by washing frequently. But you can over do a good thing.'"

Where's the correlation? What else does this make you think about?

As for me, I see a Christian, washing his or her hands over and over again, trying to wash away what can never be washed away by human means.

I see a man who tries to live a good life but can't figure out why he's not enjoying it.

I see a woman who tries to keep her boyfriend or husband constantly happy but can't figure out why she feels like dirt.

I see a teenager who thinks being good is what gets him or her into heaven.

I see myself, thinking that what I know and what I do matter more than who I know and what He does.
