food and spirituality Food

Yesterday I realized the vast metaphoricality (i made that word up...) of food.

and I thought about how Jesus used food so often in his stories. and how we partake of the lord's supper as an act of remembrance. and so many more examples from the Word that I can't give you right now, but they're there so go look.

My thoughts: Food is something that is external to you which you appraise with all of your senses and then put into your body.

What was once exterior has now become a part of you. You chew it, gum it, mash it, savor it, digest it.

Isn't it the same with the ways in which we experience God? He's external to us but becomes a part of us when we let Him.

Digested food energizes you, keeps you healthy, keeps you alive.

And then there's the other stuff. The leftovers, so to speak. The stuff that isn't used so much unless it's for some kind of fertilizer.

Is that our sin? The s*%! in our lives that reeks and can make you feel sick? The daily "stuff" we all have to deal with? The "stuff" that gets purged from our lives with a lotta bit of daily effort?

Disgusting? Yes. Revolting? Probably.

But it'll make you think harder the next time you look like you're thinking harder.
